Labour expose hypocrisy on introduction of new contracts
The Tory leader on West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authoirty has backed plans for Quality Bus Contracts in West Yorkshire despite Tory Shadow Ministers saying they would abolish them if they ever reached office.
Tory Cllr Chris Greaves said:
"The bus service being provided are not meeting people's needs and passengers have been let down and overcharged. Quality Contracts are the best way to take control of the situation."
This is in stark contrast to calls from Theresa Villiers MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport who said:
"In future, we would certainly look to remove quality contracts altogether as an option outside London; we think that they are neither necessary nor effective in improving bus services in the UK."
Labour MP for Bradford South, Gerry Sutcliffe said:
"I'm glad West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority are moving forward with these measures that should help to improve bus services for my constituents in Bradford.
"I'm glad that locally the Tories have now recognised that action Labour nationally has made available to local authorities is valuable and needed here in West Yorkshire.
"I only hope they will persuade David Cameron and his Shadow Cabinet that they are wrong on this as well and bring them round to supporting Labour's policy as well."
Labour Minister for Transport, Sadiq Khan said:
"The Tories think they can fool the people of West Yorkshire by supporting Quality Contracts here and saying they oppose them in London. "It's time for the Tory front bench to listen to their own Councillors, realise their judgement and record on bus services is dreadful and support Labour's policies to keep Britain moving." |
